Overview

By using the SKW System, we achieve uniform water distribution accuracy and improved cleaning efficiency with reduced lye usage.

100% closed-loop water circulation

For the water cooling of aluminum during DC casting, Alu-Billets GmbH in Kempten operates a circulating water system of approximately 1,000 m³.

Before the installation of the SKW System, chemicals in the form of biocides and corrosion inhibitors were used. Since the biological organisms quickly became resistant to these products, they had to be replaced every three months.

In August 1998, the SKW System was installed in both the circulating water and the fresh water inlet. The result is that the casting oil no longer emulsifies during the casting process but instead separates on the surface of the bath. The advantage is that it can now be easily disposed of and no longer clogs the water-bearing systems.

The second effect is the cleaning effect. The entire water hydraulics system cleans itself and remains clean. In addition, Alu-Billets GmbH now has oxygen-rich, stable circulating water.

Since September 1998, no chemicals have been used for water treatment. This results in cost savings of approximately €102,000 per year, according to the operations manager, Mr. Paul Sommer.
